woman-sentenced-to-15-years-in-prison-in-ny-for-cutting-off-the-arm-with-a-knife-of-a-74-year-old-man-with-whom-she-married-for-citizenship

An immigrant will serve 15 years in prison in New York for assaulting her husband whom she married to obtain citizenship by cutting off his arm with a razor.

Olivia Raimo, aged 30, injured the victim, aged 74 years, on 24 January of 2020 while they were both at their home in New Rochelle.

According to the Westchester County District Attorney’s evidence, the convicted woman pushed the old man, and subdued him between the toilet and a wall before cutting him with the knife.

When the men’s health aide arrived at the residence and was denied entry by Raimo, the visitor contacted the Department of New Rochelle Police.

Officers entered the residence after they heard the man screaming from the bathroom.

The victim was transported to Jacobi Hospital in the Bronx where he underwent two surgeries to reattach the tendons in his arm. The man lost functionality in his hand.

According to the statement from the county prosecutor’s office Westchester, Miriam E. Rocah, the couple was married at 2017. The violent incident was reported after Raimo and the victim met with an attorney to prepare for an interview with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to try to prove that the marriage was legitimate. During the meeting, the lawyer informed them that it would be difficult to prove the legality of the union to the immigration authorities.

Officers in New Rochelle arrested Raimo on 11 February.

The attacker was sentenced this Thursday to 15 years in prison and another five under supervised release after being found guilty of attempted murder in second grade.
