A woman from 11 years later she died after being stabbed while working at a high-end furniture store in the posh Los Angeles neighborhood, Hancock Park.
Brianna Kupfer , of Pacific Palisades, was killed last Thursday when an unknown assailant entered the Croft House store on North La Brea Avenue and stabbed her, the Los Angeles Police Department said Friday. Angeles in a statement.
Kupfer was found dead by a client, who reported her findings to the police.
The suspect, who remains at large, fled through a back door after the attack, according to LAPD . Surveillance images obtained by several local media outlets show him walking calmly north through an alley behind the crime scene.
The motive for the attack is unknown at this time.
Kupfer graduated from both Brentwood High School in Los Angeles and the University of Miami, his family said in a statement to CBS Los Angeles.
Her father told CBS Los Angeles that his daughter had been working toward a degree in architectural design at UCLA.
Talking with FOX 11 Los Angeles, Kupfer’s father says his daughter was “intelligent” and she had “big dreams” as well as having “lots of friends” and being “dedicated to her family”.
Riley Rea, co-owner of Croft House furniture store, told the Los Angeles Times that Kupfer had been working in the business for a little over a year before the attack. He said that the young woman was intelligent, balanced and loved by her peers, adding that “she was more mature than she was for her age.”
“I’m absolutely devastated for her and her family,” Rea told the outlet. “It seems so disgusting and unexpected. There really are no words to express how shocked we are to lose such a wonderful person.”
A small monument to Kupfer formed outside Croft House in the days after the fatal attack.
Dr. Jennifer Botelho told CBS Los Angeles that the suspect had entered her chiropractic office, which is a neighbor of Croft House, shortly before the stabbing.
“He came in and asked me a couple of questions: ‘Do you do orthopedics here?’ that he was only present “for a few minutes”.
Botelho described the situation as “terrifying” and “horrible” before offering his condolences to Kupfer’s family. “She’s such a young girl,” he said, adding, “We feel really bad for Brianna’s family and hope we can catch this guy.”
Police are still searching for the suspect, who is described as a tall, skinny African-American man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses, a white mask N-95, dark colored skinny jeans and dark colored shoes. The suspect was also wearing a dark colored backpack at the time of the attack.
