Through social networks, images of the exact moment in which the tsunami caused by the volcanic eruption near the island of Tonga, in the Pacific Ocean, caused material damage in the Latin American country were disseminated.

Ecuador’s Secretariat for Risk Management (SNGR) issued a tsunami warning for the continental coast of the country, while monitoring variations in sea level in Galapagos.

Hours before The agency recommended suspending maritime activities along the coastline of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.

The changes in the Ecuadorian waters have been constant during the last hours, which is why the authorities canceled the tsunami warning that had been issued hours before for the archipelago.

Likewise, the Secretary of Risks warned that until now “the status of observation is maintained” for the Galapagos and pointed out that “other points of the coast continue ental and insular could experience similar disturbances” in the last few hours.
