Former soccer player Cuauhtémoc Blanco and governor of the Mexican state of Morelos, filed a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) against the “narco-politicians” of that state who, he says, “try to destroy his image.”
Blanco made these statements and filed the complaint after a photograph of him was published with three people who are allegedly leaders of drug trafficking in Morelos.
“Here I’m showing my face and I’m not going to stop and I’m not afraid of them. Here I am, firm”, declared Blanco at the entrance of the facilities of the Specialized Prosecutor for Organized Crime (Femdo), a body belonging to the FGR, in Mexico City.
The former national team went to file the legal action against what he described as a “dirty war” orchestrated in against him, in front of several media outlets.
Although the governor did not specify whom the complaint involves and only mentioned that against “whoever is responsible,” he said that the prosecutors (general and corruption) of Morelos “are anything but autonomous.”
In addition, he said that there are judges, police officers, mayors and legislators who have done a lot of damage to the state and also mentioned the former governor of Morelos Graco Ramírez.
“The state of Morelos is being besieged by a few political actors from the past and economic ones from the present, but very powerful, with sufficient resources to wage a dirty, intense and lasting war,” he stated.
The former Americanist, surrounded by controversy
Cuauhtémoc Blanco made the decision to present this complaint after the newspaper El Sol de México published the image in early January where Blanco appears together with Irving Eduardo Solano, alias “El Profe ”, leader of the Guerreros Unidos Cartel arrested in February 2021.
Also appearing are Homero Figueroa, alias “la Tripa”, alleged leader of the criminal group Comando Tlahuica; as well as Raymundo Isidro Castro, alias “el Ray”, who was the regional leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Morelos and who was assassinated in October 2018 in a fight at the Morelos Reintegration Center.
According to said media, the image was captured shortly after Blanco, who fulfilled this 17 from January 49 years, will take office as governor of Morelos on October 1, 2018.
“I will continue taking photos with whomever I ask”, added the three-time World Cup player.
In addition, in recent days several “narcomantas” (tarps on which organized crime writes messages) have appeared threatening the governor and claiming responsibility for the murder of Benjamín López Palacios , mayor of Xoxocotla, the past from January. “You are going to be left without mayors, I warned you,” reads the canvas.
On January 5, the former soccer player already said that he is not a criminal nor does he agree with criminals. “I will continue working to give peace to the state. Better that the ‘narco-politicians’ worry, they are being investigated, I have nothing to hide, that they investigate me at 93 %”, Blanco said then.
In mid-September 2021, the Morelos Anti-Corruption Prosecutor, received a complaint against Blanco and a network of friends and relatives investigated by the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the federal government.
The complaint was filed one year after learning of an investigation by the FIU and the FGR into an alleged network of corruption involving the collaborators of Blanco, who ventured into politics more than five years ago.
