The driver of a school bus in Brooklyn was arrested and charged with running over a 15-year-old teenager who ended up dying in an accident that occurred on Monday morning.
The police arrested Aleksandr Patlakh, a man aged 17 , who was accused of failing to stop at a pedestrian crossing and not taking due care.
The victim, who was identified as Antonina Zatulovska, from 15 years old, had the right of way and was in the crosswalk when she was hit.
The authorities indicated that the suspect did not turn himself in, as he had to be tracked down and subsequently arrested, but the police speculate that Patlakh did not know that he had run over the minor.
The bus that Patlakh was driving was transporting children to a nearby Jewish school, as classes are still open for private schools. The incident occurred around 8: 00 am
“I heard the screams and then I started to go down this side,” a witness told ABC7NY. “People began to activate the 911 and the emergency services, and in 10 seconds I already saw some of the ambulance companies and some of the private volunteers responded immediately“.
Meanwhile, Danny Harris, executive director of Transportation Alternatives, issued a statement regretting the incident and sympathizing with Zatulovska’s relatives.
“We are heartbroken and angry. We send our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the teenage girl killed outside a school in Sheepshead Bay this morning,” Harris said. )
Suggested that the city should redesign its streets and work to reduce the number of vehicles on city streets.
“We must do it now so that no family has to face the horror of burying a child who simply wanted to cross a street in front of a school in New York City,” said Harris.
