The US Coast Guard based in San Juan reported this Tuesday the repatriation of 90 Dominican migrants who were intercepted near the western coast of Puerto Rico in three boats.
The repatriation process was carried out between the coast guard Richard Dixon and a ship of the Navy of the Dominican Republic near Punta Cana last Sunday, according to the statement.
Patrolman Winslow Griesser intercepted the first illegal trip last Thursday, after the crew of a Maritime Force aircraft detected a suspicious vessel of 30 feet at approximately 25 nautical miles northwest of Aguadilla.
The second boat, of 24 feet, was intercepted in the same area a day later, while the third was detected on Saturday approximately 45 nautical miles north of Aguadilla.
La Gu Ardia Costera frequently intercepts boats with Dominican or Haitian migrants trying to reach the United States illegally in the Mona Channel, which separates Puerto Rico from the Dominican Republic.
