VALENCIA (Spain) – Five people died and eight were injured, three of them seriously, in the fire at a nursing home in Valencia, Spain, according to sources from the Valencia Regional Government Emergency Department.

The fire occurred around 19: 21 pm (local time) this Tuesday in the center, located on Calle Mayor in the Valencian municipality, and has forced the eviction of 21 residents preventively.

Four crews from the Firefighters Consortium, two from Emergency Medical Assistance Services (SAMU) and two Basic Life Support (SVB) were mobilized to the site, According to the sources, who have indicated that the fire was controlled around 1: 20 am

Eight people were injured in the fire due to smoke poisoning, three of them from seriously, and have been transferred to different hospitals.

Sources from the Firefighters Consortium indicated that six firefighters from the parks of Paterna, Pobla de Farnals, Burjassot and Torrent have traveled to the scene , as well as six command units, including the chief inspector of the Consortium and an officer.

According to the sources, upon arrival at the residence the fire was already fully developed, affecting one wing of the building , and the firefighters have immediately started the rescue and fire extinguishing tasks.

The firefighters have rescued d about twenty-five residents inside the facilities, some of whom have had to be treated later by medical means.

With the collaboration of the Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection and the center’s own staff, the rest of the residence has been evicted, up to a total of approximately 70 persons.
