A 59 year-old man from Montgomery, Maryland, is charged with murder after hitting his wife “multiple times” with a van she was driving after she left a local bank, causing her death.

Montgomery County police reported that Himanshu Maganlal Tanna was arrested on Friday for the act.

Alka Himanshu Tanna, the victim, had gone to the Capitol One bank in the Silver Spring community.

“While attempting to cross the parking lot, a white Lexus SUV, driven by her husband, Himanshu Maganlal Tanna, of 59 years old, of Silver Spring, sped up and struck his wife multiple times with his vehicle,” officers wrote in a press release.

“The suspect then collided with a light pole, disabling the SUV”, added the authorities, who maintain that the event was not an accident.

The spokesperson Shiera Goff told NBC Washington that when the woman left the bank, her husband was driving the white van, a vehicle with which he intentionally hit her.

Goof explained that the man hit deliberately hit his wife with the vehicle before backing up, stopping, and moving forward again. His truck hit his wife multiple times before hitting the utility pole.

In addition, he indicated that the couple went to Capitol One in separate vehicles.

The authorities indicated that they detained Tanna without incident, and took him to the police headquarters where he testified about the case, details that have not been revealed by the authorities.

This death was Montgomery County’s first homicide in 2022.
