The skeleton of an elderly man aged 84 was found inside an apartment where his wife still lives among large amounts of rubbish in Brooklyn (NYC).

The man was identified as Brent Shapiro. His wife Elizabeth Shapiro of 72 lives there and told the NYPD she planned to wait a year before reporting the death. .

Shapiro was found dead inside the couple’s apartment on Coney Island Avenue near Glenwood Road in the Midwood neighborhood shortly before 7 pm Saturday. His body was decomposed and there was a hoarding condition in the home, police sources said.

It was not immediately clear how long Shapiro had been dead or the cause of death. Cops made the shocking discovery during a wellness check requested by the couple’s two children of 41 and 45 years.

The children reported that their parents had “bad mental conditions” and that their father had been bedridden in bed for years and that his mother had told them earlier that day that he was in the hospital. They added that they had not seen either of their parents since 2019, detailed Daily News.

The circumstances of the death were unclear as of yesterday afternoon, but no crime was immediately suspected. The city medical examiner’s office will officially determine how and when he died, reported New York Post.
