An Alabama man used a ninja sword to kill his mother, wound his disabled uncle and his brother, Mobile County authorities reported.
The subject identified as Damien Washam , aged 23, stabbed her mother, Helen Nettles Washam, of 61 years old, with a recently purchased ninja sword, reported the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office.
Furthermore, Washam used the sword to cut his uncle, George Washington Nettles, aged 52, who suffers from cerebral palsy and stabbed his brother, Desmon’s wrist.
After the attack, Washam fled the house immediately, but was caught after a police chase would be staged, the authorities pointed out.
“This is quite brutal with a ceremonial-type sword, not very sharp, and with that he attacked and killed his mother. He caused very serious injuries to his uncle and some minor injuries to his brother,” Mobile Sheriff’s Office Captain Paul Burch told NBC. News.
The authorities had to deploy spike strips to stop the car where Washam tried to escape, and made his arrest with the use of an electroshock weapon, since he tried to flee on foot.
“Once he stopped, he tried to run away, and the officers approached him and he began to resist arrest. One of the officers deployed a taser that hit him and was able to detain him,” Burch stressed.
The investigators found Helen’s lifeless body when they arrived at the suspect’s house to gather information, The New York Post reported.
For his part, the suspect’s uncle was transferred from rushed to a nearby hospital for serious facial injuries, while the brother was treated at the scene.
Despite the nature of the murder, the suspect’s father spoke with Captain Burch, and told him confessed that she does not know what led her son to commit the crime and attack his other relatives.
“I spoke with the father several times last night, and he does not know what could have triggered this behavior. He said he has no known mental illness, no criminal record, that he was not a bad boy, and that he really has no idea what could have triggered this behavior,” Burch said.
The alleged killer He was also taken to a hospital briefly for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities added.
Washam is expected to be charged with murder, attempted murder, assault, and evading officers.
