Although the man on stage was the pastor’s younger brother, Todd received strong criticism for his controversial methods.
“When the pastors resort to clowning instead of words, they have no choice but to up the ante in creativity and impact value,” one person noted on Twitter.

Faced with the wave of criticism unleashed by his action, Michael Todd published a video in which he acknowledged that his sermon had resulted be more shocking than expected.
“I saw it again and it was disgusting. It was disgusting. I want to validate everyone’s feelings that it was a distraction from what I was really trying to do,” said the pastor, who justified himself by saying that he wanted God’s words to “come alive” for his viewers.
