italy-will-issue-an-international-arrest-warrant-to-extradite-robinho-for-his-rape-sentence

The Italian highest court, La Cassazione, issued a sentence last January 19 for former Brazilian soccer player Robinho on charges of rape. Now, the authorities confirmed that they are preparing an alert that would seek to extradite him to Italy to serve his sentence.

The court report demands that Robinho and his friend Ricardo Falco -also convicted- must serve the sentence of nine years in prison in Italy.

However, the Brazilian constitution does not allow extradition of its own Brazilian citizens; They know this in court and that is why the next step to follow will be to issue an international arrest alert for the former player.

This would mean that in a hypothetical case that Robinho leaves Brazil, where he resides permanently since 2020, can be arrested and extradited to the European country.

The conviction that weighs on the former AC Milan player comes after he harassed a woman in 2013 during a party in a Milan nightclub .

According to the verdict, Robinho and Falco were celebrating the birthday of the 23-year-old girl and after the footballer accompanied his wife to his house, returned to the disco and intoxicated the birthday girl until “she got drunk and became unconscious and unable to oppose violence”.

The report also explained that the non-consensual sexual encounter took place in a local closet and both Robinho and Falco participated.

Robinho left Italy in 2014 when the investigations of the case just started for his second internship with Santos in Brazil. Since then he served in China, Turkey and his native country until the year of his retirement in 2020.
