A Colombian police officer was shot dead by gunmen who were traveling on two motorcycles when he arrived at his home in the city of Villavicencio, capital of the department of Meta (center), according to that institution.
The victim was Mayor Albeiro Oswaldo Páramo, aged 37, “who was shot three times in different parts of his body by four individuals who were traveling on two motorcycles, in the moment in which the official arrived at his place of residence,” the Police said in a statement.
The events occurred on Monday afternoon in the Villa Samper neighborhood of Villavicencio and the mayor was transferred to a city hospital where he died at night “due to the seriousness of his injuries”.
“The National Police deeply regrets this act of violence, for this reason it arranged a special Judicial Police team to carry out investigations to identify and capture ure in the shortest possible time those responsible for this crime,” said the security forces, without specifying who is behind the events.
The mayor of Villavicencio, Felipe Harman, assured that “they are investigating who is responsible for this fact” and offered a reward of up to 20 million pesos (about 5,000 dollars) for those who “find the true whereabouts of these characters who attacked this member of the National Police.”
