A police officer from Coral Gables, a city near Miami, Florida, was arrested and accused of assaulting and attempting to strangle his girlfriend after a violent verbal altercation in his home that lasted for two days, according to local media reports on Tuesday.
The events occurred last Sunday night, when Cristino Pérez, 51 years old , got into an argument with his girlfriend over a matter of infidelity.
The fight began in bed and escalated until it ended with blows between the two over a blanket and the alleged attempt to strangle the woman by the officer.
The next day continued the domestic fight, with the man hitting the bedroom window and his partner, to the point that he handcuffed his girlfriend and dragged her to the bedroom, according to the police report collected by the CBSMiami channel.
A son of the woman tried to intervene in the dispute and the violent action of the agent without being able to dissuade him.
A police patrol went to the scene and the agents arrested Pérez, who was accused of the crimes of domestic assault, attempted strangulation and illegal detention.
In a statement, Coral Gables Police Chief Ed Hudak said Perez had been relieved of his post, but keeping his salary pending a decision from the Coral Gables County Prosecutor’s office. Miami-Dade.
The woman had bruises on her body and redness on one hand and the wrist (because of the handcuffs) and the neck.
Perez, for his part, told the detectives that his girlfriend had bitten him on the wrist, and, according to the same report, he also had visible bruises on the wrist and scratch marks on the neck, according to Telemundo 51.
