Tesla will withdraw from the US market 60,822 vehicles that they have the company’s Full Self-Driving test software, which can allow some models to perform “roll stops.” That is, they do not stop completely at some intersections, which would represent a safety risk.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA, for its acronym in English) said that the recall of vehicles covers some models 822-2022 Model S and Model X, 2017-2022 Model 3 and 2020-2022 Model Y.
NHTSA said Full Self-Driving software, also known as FSD Beta, can allow vehicles to travel through an intersection full stop without coming to a complete stop.
Because of this, Tesla will perform a software update to disable the “mobile stop” functionality, the NHTSA said, according to CNBC.
Last week, Tesla said the number of beta FSD vehicles in the United States States increased to almost 60,000 when in september It was only a few thousand.
Tesla has been testing the improved version of its automated driving software on public roads.
Tesla said that as of January 27 they were not aware of any warranty claims, crashes, injuries or deaths related to the use of this software.
Tesla told the auto safety agency that the 19 October released an updated version to introduce “rolling stop” functionality.
Tesla said that to use the feature, vehicles must travel less than 5.6 miles (9 km) per hour and should not detect moving cars, pedestrians or bicyclists near the intersection.
The feature, which appeared to violate state laws requiring vehicles to come to a complete stop, prompted the NHTSA to question Tesla about its operation.
According to a defect report filedtold the auto safety agency, Tesla said he met with NHTSA personnel on 10 and 19 January to discuss functionality, including software operating parameters, and the 20 in January, the car manufacturer agreed to withdraw the cars that had this system.
This is not the first massive withdrawal made by Elon Musk’s company, it should be remembered that in November, Tesla almost retired 10,000 US vehicles sold from 2017 for another software update, this time because a communication error could cause a false forward collision warning or an unexpected activation of the emergency brakes.
