The Bafta (British Academy Film Awards) are an excellent benchmark of what could happen at the Oscars and the nominations for the number edition 75 have just been announced by AJ Odudu and Tom Allen, from London’s Piccadilly Theatre, in a live broadcast on YouTube.
The science fiction film “Dune”, by Dennis Villeneuve, leads this year’s edition with eleven nominations, four more than “The Power of the Dog”, by Jane Campion, and five more than “Belftast”, by Kenneth Branagh.
“Encanto”, the acclaimed Disney film, which vindicates Colombian culture and magical realism, is one of the great favorites to win the award for best animated film of the season, although it will compete with “Luca”, another jewel of the house of Mickey and his partner Pixar.
But it is the nominees elsewhere who are likely to do let the industry speak, with a roster inundated with new faces, unexpected additions, and several notable absences.
Rebel Wilson will host the Baftas 2022 to be held at the Royal Albert London Hall next Sunday of March.
Here we leave you the candidates in their respective categories.
