harry-and-meghan-express-their-concern-to-spotify-about-misinforming-about-covid

Despite the fact that Spotify announced that it will take measures to combat misinformation about Covid, including a notice in all its content, the couple made up of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not hesitate to transmit their concern to the platform.

“Hundreds of millions of people are affected by serious harm from rampant disinformation and misinformation every day. Last April, our co-founders began raising concerns with our partners at Spotify about the all-too-real consequences of COVID-19 misinformation on their platform,” said a spokesperson for the Archewell Foundation in a statement.

And it is that Harry and Meghan signed a series of corporate agreements, including the production and presentation of podcasts for Spotify, as part of their efforts to earn a living following her separation from the British royal family announced in 2020.

”We continue to express our concerns to Spotify to ensure changes are made to their platform to help address this public health crisis. We hope that Spotify lives up to this moment and we are committed to continuing our work together”, they added.

The controversy surrounding Spotify focuses on the program “The Joe Rogan Experience”, considered as the most popular podcast in the United States.

The program, which is offered exclusively on this platform after Spotify signed, in 100, to Rogan for $100 million dollars, has been repeatedly criticized for promoting conspiracy theories about the coronavirus and encouraging not to get vaccinated.

The statement by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex also comes after Neil Young and Joni Mitchell announced that they will withdraw their music from Spotify in protest at the broadcast of the popular podcast accused of spreading falsehoods about Covid and vaccines against the disease.

Recently, more musicians also decided to cut ties with the platform. This time it was the turn of David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash, who released a statement through Twitter, in which they support their colleague and former bandmate, Neil Young.

“We agree with him that it is dangerous information that is spread through Joe Rogan’s Spotify podcast. Although we value different points of view, the knowing spread of disinformation during a pandemic has deadly consequences”, they stated.
