A Hispanic family from East Los Angeles filed a lawsuit against the pediatric company California Pediatric & Family Services after they witnessed their daughter with autism and mental retardation being beaten by a behavioral therapist, Kevin Yuen.
“He was very aggressive. I was hitting my little girl with my fist in her little face. The truth was that no expression of regret was seen, he just did it, ”said the mother in an interview with Univision.
The family’s lawyer, Robert Glassman, announced that the minor of age who has been identified as Marcela Verdugo, aged 16 years old, lives at “the severe end of the autism spectrum”.
“When I first saw the video I was absolutely shocked and angry. He was angry about what he was seeing,” said another employee of the Panish law firm Shea Boyle Ravipudi.
According to the victim’s family, Marcela Verdugo did not have therapy with Kevin Yuen a few weeks, but 18 months, so they fear that from day one she was attacked by the pseudo health professional.
Of According to Marcela Verdugo’s mother, she began to notice that her daughter was aggressive, which is why she decided to place cameras inside her house where she took therapy, and it was then that they discovered the reason for her daughter’s attitude.
According to the legal representative of the Hispanic family, Kevin Yuen was arrested last 24 June 2021 for felony offenses, including one count of endangering a child, as well as one count of assault causing bodily harm.
Therapist pleaded guilty to one count of felony minor for endangering a child and received four years of parole, in addition to completing a one-year child abuse program and has been prohibited from working with children during his parole.
While the company CAL-PEDS regretted the events that occurred and pointed out that in the 40 years that the business has been running they have never had an incident like this and they showed all their support for the Verdugo family.
