Although about a few 70,000 people were without power in Texas at noon this Thursday, due to the winter storm that is hitting much of the United States, Governor Greg Abbott was confident that the state will not face an energy crisis like the one in February last year.
“ The power grid in Texas is at its most stable point in its entire history,” the Republican governor said during a press conference. “We are prepared to deal with this winter storm,” said Abbott.
The Republican governor blamed the local power companies for this situation and not the Electric Grid Reliability Council (ERCOT).
“How is it possible that they are without light? Abbott. “The reason is that there are problems with local companies, either due to strong winds or some frozen poles or trees or due to ice,” he explained.
With the help of extra personnel, local suppliers they are trying to solve the power outages; there are 2,24 workers from other states who are coming to Texas to help in this work.
For its part, the supplier company Oncor energy indicated that this Thursday morning, some 24,432 consumers of their service were without power , due to some 660 damage to its wiring, which froze in the winter storm.
The most affected areas are north of Dallas, in areas such as Plano, Richardson and McKinney.
This was recorded on one of the coldest mornings of the year and in the middle of a winter storm that is freezing roads and power lines in the region.
ERCOT projects that demand will remain below the levels of the previous year’s storm where there were several days at freezing level and the power grid collapsed.
