The Uruguayan justice detained three men who are under investigation for their alleged involvement in the case of a gang rape that occurred in the past January, as confirmed this Thursday to the local press by the defense attorney, Martín Frustaci.
After the declaration of the three defendants and a fourth involved -who is a minor of age-, the lawyer explained that his defendants were detained “for security” until the prosecutor of the case makes a decision during the next 48 hours.
“A statement was taken, evidence was provided by the defense and we are awaiting the outcome of the process. We are going to wait for Dr. Lovesio to call us to see if it formalizes, if not, and for what criminal classification is an alleged formalization made,” Frustaci explained to Telemundo Uruguay.
Last 23 in January a woman aged 48 reported having been the victim of a group rape in Montevideo, Uruguay, after having met a man in a bar and going to his apartment to have sex with him.
However, the victim stated that two more men entered the place and between the three of them they raped her, a version ratified by the forensic expert after being attended by the emergencies and denouncing the attack, according to the EFE information agency.
This case has aroused great expectations in Uruguay amid the rejection of the authorities and justice by feminist groups, who consider that there is a great lack of attention to sexual crimes in the country .
The director of the National Institute for Women, Monica Bottero, commented that the measures taken by the institution were carried out after the release of some audios by local media in the framework of the investigation.
