A 9-year-old Alabama girl has been charged in the death of her 4-year-old brother after she allegedly used a broomstick to brutally beat him, authorities said.
Mobile police said the assaulted boy, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the home where officers had been called to a “medical emergency” last Thursday morning.
Your aunt and legal guardian, Yolanda Coale, told police she woke up to the sound of the children’s screams and saw the girl hitting her brother with a broomstick.
Coale, 53 years old, was arrested for aggravated child abuse the next day, while the girl 9-year-old was charged with assault, according to court documents obtained by The Associated Press.
The complaint says that she “deliberately tortured and abused her brother, in addition to cruelly beating him,” according to WPMI.
The documents also state that there were previous injuries and signs indicating long-term abuse on the body of the little boy; an autopsy has yet to determine the cause of death and no one has been charged with murder.
Coale did not respond to questions when she was transferred to a local jail, where she was being held on $2 bail 150,15 dollars, reported WPMI.
For the moment, it has not been disclosed what happened to the girl or where she is, and the police, along with the prosecutor’s office, did not respond to requests for more information from some media outlets.
