Protesters against the health restrictions against the covid-19 pandemic in Canada blocked a new border crossing this Thursday with the United States, according to a report delivered by the Police of the province of Manitoba (center), four days after the blockade in Ontario of the binational Ambassador Bridge.
“A protest that involves a large amount of vehicles and agricultural equipment blocks the Emerson port of entry”, which connects Manitoba with the state of North Dakota, in the northern United States, the police said on Twitter.
“Traffic is not viable, either north or south,” he added. This blockade is added to that of the Ambassador border bridge, which connects Windsor (Canada) with Detroit (United States), closed since Monday.
These blockades are causing production disruptions for regional auto giants like Toyota and Ford and have been criticized on both sides of the border.
“Our automotive, industrial and agricultural businesses are feeling the pressure,” said Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who considered the situation “unacceptable” since “it affects wages and production lines ”.
Thousands of kilometers to the west, the Coutts border crossing, which links the province of Alberta with the state of Montana, has also been blocked by protesters for more than a week.

As if that were not enough, a caravan of vehicles obstructed traffic around Ottawa International Airport. The police of the Canadian capital assured that there were disturbances in the traffic.
Videos of the protest show dozens of cars, many of them adorned with Canadian flags and honking their horns, slowly driving past the airport terminals.
The Ottawa Police also denounced the attempted sabotage of the emergency telephone 911, through a “concerted plan to flood” the emergency line with useless calls, and remembered that it is a crime to try to sabotage the phone.
The authorities reiterated that the blockade of streets is a criminal offence, but the protesters insisted that they will not abandon the occupation until all the measures adopted to contain the pandemic are rescinded and the government of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigns. .
