An adolescent of 15 years with developmental disabilities would have been raped at least twice in a school bathroom, denounce his parents, who indicate that the Chicago Public Schools refused to say what happened and also blamed their son.
Although the parents wanted to remain anonymous, they appeared in front of CBS 2 cameras to give more details of the abuse they her son suffered.
“How the hell did that happen, at school?” said the boy’s mother. “I mean, no one was looking.” While the parent commented that they thought their child would be safe at school.
Both reported that their son was raped at least twice in the bathroom at William J. Bogan Computer Technical High School, 3939 W. 79th St. They believe that their attacker was another teenager who also attends that school.
The parents reported that the abuse came to light after Your son confessed it to a classmate. “He told her what happened, and then she went and reported it to a teacher,” explained the minor’s mother.
But after the attack they point out that they have not received the expected support, instead, they say Bogan and Chicago Public Schools staff have fought them throughout, refusing to admit the attack occurred or take action to prevent such a thing from happening again, and even blaming their son.
They said an action had been implemented for both students that required an aide to escort each through the building from school, and although the parents thought that he would be supervised while he went to the bathroom, that did not happen.
After filing the lawsuit, the family’s lawyer, Carolyn Daley, discovered that the minor accused of abuse had a history of aggressive behavior and sexual misconduct, including 27 conduct violations.
“He was found in a bathroom with or other two students from the group program, or special education program, at Bond Elementary”, narrated the lawyer. “One of the students was bending over him with his pants down.”
Daley said that even after his client was raped in Bogan, CPS took no action to prevent it from happening to others.
CPS hired a private lawyers, calling the child’s testimony “selfish” and saying they had no duty to protect him in the bathroom. So far the two motions he has filed for a judge to dismiss the case have been denied.
“I think the most shocking thing was when the CPS attorney said, ‘Do you know what gay means? ‘ When she started going there, “said the victim’s mother. “And then say that, ‘Well, do you think it’s wrong to be gay? Did your parents tell you it was wrong?’”.
The trial of this controversial case will begin next week
