eriksen's-shocking-account-after-cardiac-arrest:-“i-left-this-world-for-five-minutes”

The Danish soccer player Christian Eriksen took the time to talk about the shocking moment in which he suffered a cardiac arrest while playing with his national team at the European Championship held last year, a fact that forced him to leave football for several months.

After overcoming his health problems and showing that he could continue with his sports career, Eriksen managed to sign for humble Brentford in England, something that can be considered one of the most emotional comebacks in the sport as the player himself admitted he was dead for five minutes.

Danish footballer @ChrisEriksen8 collapsed and “died for five minutes” during last summer’ s Euros. Now he’s preparing to make his debut for Brentford.

He shares his amazing story with @DanRoan for BBC Sport.

“I remember everything, except five minutes. I remember the throw-in, the ball hitting my knee and I don’t know what happened afterwards. I woke up with a lot of people around me and pressure on my chest, trying to catch my breath. I didn’t understand what was happening”, said the Dane in an interview with the British network BBC.

“I started to think if I had broken my legs, my back. I tried to move everything to understand what was happening. Then in the ambulance I heard someone say, ‘How long has he been out?’ and another replied: ‘five minutes’. That was the first time I heard that I had left”, he added.

Taking into account what he experienced at that time and the way in The one who has recovered, the former Tottenham and Inter Milan player, considers that everything has been a miracle, which will be completed when he returns to play an official match in a stadium full of public.

Unlike other players who have suffered heart problems and have had to end their careers like ‘Kun’ Agüero, for example, Eriksen could play again because he has an Implantable Automatic Defibrillator (ICD).

This device generates the necessary confidence in the athlete to try to resume his career and continue doing what he loves. “I don’t see any risk. I have an ICD, if something happens to me I know I can be safe”, he said.

In this sense, the player stated that he was confident in being able to recover his best level. “I don’t see any reason why I couldn’t get back to my best level, to be honest. It has been a long recovery and there is still time, but I feel that my return is getting closer and I have the patience to wait for the right moment”.

“It will be very special to be able to return to a soccer field and play after seven or eight months. It’s going to be amazing,” Eriksen said.
