Although in recent days the temperature has risen in NYC after a frigid weekend, there is once again a threat of snow in the region.

New York City could receive another gust of snow this weekend, while in contrast the temperatures in Los Angeles rise and outline record levels for Sunday, this year being the venue for the biggest national sporting event, Super Bowl LVI.

A storm is forecast to develop off the East Coast this weekend, bringing snow to New York and the Northeast beginning Sunday afternoon and continuing overnight, Allison Santorelli of the US Weather Prediction Center predicted. The amount of snow that will fall remains an open question, as the trajectory and strength of the system will be the determining factor, outlined Bloomberg.com

“We are not seeing a big storm or anything for the style,” commented Santorelli. “But probably enough to make people nervous about Super Bowl parties.”

One thing is for sure, after a balmy Saturday with a maximum temperature of 53 degrees Fahrenheit (17C ), temperatures will plummet with a forecast low of 17F (-8C) in Manhattan on Sunday afternoon night. Meanwhile, Los Angeles County will swelter under potentially record temperatures for this time of year. A heat advisory is in effect through Sunday, warning until 90F (32F) throughout the area, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Meteorologists remind that extreme temperatures are dangerous, especially for the elderly and children. Weather updates can be found here and on the National Weather Service (NWS-NY) website.
