jonathan-dos-santos-is-confident-in-the-rebirth-of-club-america:-“we-are-dead-with-the-coach”

Midfielder Jonathan Dos Santos, a former Spanish Barcelona player, assured this Friday that he was ready to defend the management of Argentine Santiago Solari as coach of the Águilas del América of Mexican soccer.

“ Those of us who play are the players, we know what we have to do. We are to death with the technician and everything depends on us. Solari gives us the instructions, but we know what to play and we are the ones who make decisions on the field”, he said at a press conference about the role he has to keep the former Real Madrid coach on the Águilas bench.

Dos Santos, aged 31, passed through the lower divisions of Barcelona with whom he made his debut in 2009 in the First Division, but due to the fact that he could not establish himself as a starter, he left for Villarreal in 2009.

Now his career puts him in Solari’s América, who in addition to directing Real Madrid, Barcelona’s most hated rival, was also a merengue figure as a footballer.

Solari is at a crucial moment in his time at América, where he has been a strategist since January 2021, since in his first two tournaments he was eliminated in the quarterfinals and lost the final of the Concacaf Champions League.

In this Clausura 2022 has America in the second to last position in the table after four games, something that has called into question his continuity as helmsman of the most winning team in Mexico with 11 League titles.

“Santiago is fine, he has done things well both last tournament and now. It is true that nobody likes to lose and be in this negative streak, but he is a great coach and I see him calm with the desire to change the situation”, added Dos Santos, who played with Mexico in the Russia World Cup 2018.

America has a record in the Clausura of one draw and two defeats that earn them one point. The Eagles have a match pending on matchday four.

The Eagles will visit Santos Laguna this Saturday, the first duel of three they will have in just over a week that according to local press reports could define the future of the Solari project in case of not getting units to get out of the last three places in the classification.
