OTTAWA – A Canadian judge ordered anti-vaccine truckers to withdraw this Friday night from the main land crossing between the United States and Canada, the Ambassador Bridge, where they have remained for five days.
The magistrate Geoffrey Morawetz, of the Superior Court of Ontario, indicated in a virtual hearing that the order will be effective at that time to give the protesters time to withdraw from the area.
In this way, the judge responded to the request presented by the Automobile Components Manufacturers Association of Canada to order the end of the blockade.
It is unclear if and when law enforcement officers will eventually be deployed to evict truckers stationed on the Ambassador Bridge, which connects the Canadian town of Windsor with the United States Dense Detroit.
Even so, the magistrate’s order opens the door for Canadian authorities to use the police force to evict truckers, who oppose measures against the pandemic.
According to local media, the police presence has increased in Windsor, where a large number of agents have arrived; while the local hospitals have declared themselves on alert to the possibility of an “orange code” occurring, which is when there is a high number of victims.
