iowa-scandal-follows-rumor-about-school-letting-students-who-identify-as-animals-use-litter-boxes-in-bathrooms

A scandalous rumor has been generated around a school in the city of Iowa, which indicates that students who identify themselves as animals are being allowed to use sandboxes in the bathrooms.

Similar stories have surfaced in some school districts across the country, beginning with Midland Public Schools in Michigan in December, after a parent raised concerns about litter boxes in bathrooms at a school board meeting.

Casey Burlau, Superintendent of Carroll School, sent a letter to students and parents on Monday. He writes: “The rumor is that our schools have sandboxes in the bathrooms to accommodate people who identify themselves as animals. This is simply and emphatically false“.

For your part Jane Cobb, director of the Iowa State Education Association (ISEA), said the rumors started in Michigan when a parent spoke before a school board. Since then, several secondary schools in the country have been the target of similar rumors, all of which are false.

People in the town point to social media as the culprit behind the rumor. “This is too extreme! It’s ridiculous,” exclaims Dawn Rudolph of Green County.

The ISEA says the rumor is an attempt by the right to mock LGBTQ equality in restrooms and harms the mental health of students.

“It is absurd and petty. And it’s not at all the approach that we should be having right now,” Cobb said. “I would just ask the people who are spreading this myth to stop,” Cobb says. Carroll for speaking.
