the-great-resignation

The pandemic has sown an existential crisis in the almost 4 million Americans who quit their jobs every month. This situation is now a trend and is called “the great resignation.” But why this decision? Is it just external causes or is there something deeper and related to our purpose behind it?
The last two years the world has changed at breakneck speed. Our ways of relating and working have been modified from their foundations. For many people, it was the first time they experienced a more focused existence that doesn’t just revolve around a routine occupation, and for many others, the lockdown provided the opportunity to meet and “meet” their partner and children.
Those who did not have a family, also realized the importance of having a balance in which each of the roles we play in our day to day, have their space and priority.
Other experts agree in interpreting the statistics that indicate that, for each employee, there are two vacancies, as evidence that a reorganization of the labor force is taking place in which employees value not only economic compensation but also the balance between work time and free time, as well as other benefits.
Although it is a multi-causal phenomenon, the great resignation seems to be the product of what we learned in the pandemic regarding the value of life and time.
Be that as it may , the statistics as are irreversible: according to a study by Microsoft Research reviewed by El Cronista, 40% of employees globally are thinking of leaving their jobs in this 2022.
Everything points to the fact that this scheme of working 30 or 40 years in the same company, as our grandparents did, to then aspire to a quiet retirement in which, at last, we dedicate ourselves to what we like, has definitely come to an end.
Life is too short to spend it doing something we don’t love. The fact that we have shown in the pandemic that we can always monetize our passion and live from what we know, thanks to the technology that sometimes allows us to work from home, has contributed to reaching these levels of chosen unemployment.
I sincerely hope that this collective awakening leads us to a better path of reconnection with our purpose and that, finally, we can align what we want with what we do in each of the facets of our being.
