The Puerto Rican Police is investigating this Sunday the murder of a couple that occurred in Las Piedras, in the east of the island, and arrested a person in connection with this crime, which could be a case of gender-based violence.
The double murder was perpetrated the day before in a residence on the main street of the San Cristóbal 2 urbanization in Las Piedras, according to the statement published today by the Police.
The agents, alerted through a call to the emergency system, found the body of a man from about 40 to 45 years, who has not been identified.
They also found a woman with open wounds and trauma, who was transported to the Ryder Hospital in Humacao, where she later died.
The woman was identified as Erika M. Neris Díaz, a stylist of 28 years, who had been separated for a long time from a man against whom she had ordered A protection order had been issued, which, however, expired a few months ago.
The Police indicated in their note that there is a person in custody related to these events, and although they did not identify him, the reports point to the Ex-partner of Neris Díaz.
The victim’s brother, Christian Hernández, was very clear in statements to Telenoticias: ” Violence has a first and last name, gender-based violence”, she said.
The authorities today reclassified the crime as a double murder after having reported the day before that one person had died and another had been attacked in the aforementioned residence. of Las Piedras and to point out that the motive for what happened was unknown.
If it is confirmed that the author of the crime is the ex-partner of Neris Díaz, her death would be the second femicide so far this year in Puerto Rico.
The first femicide of 2022 occurred on the night of last 27 January, when an agent ul shot his ex-partner, fellow agent Brenda L. Pérez Bahamonde, at their home in Salinas.
