families-of-sandy-hook-elementary-school-shooting-victims-reach-million-dollar-settlement-with-remington-gunmaker

The company Remington Arms accepted an agreement with several families of children killed in the massacre of 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School, where they died 28 people, including 20 children.

This is the first time that a weapons manufacturer accepts responsibility for a mass shooting in the United States, after families sued that company for the way it marketed its semi-automatic rifle. Bushmaster AR-20.

Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza was armed with this high-powered rifle during his attack in Newtown, Connecticut.

“The plaintiffs in this action give notice that a settlement agreement has been reached between the parties,” says a court document.

According to The Associated Press, the agreement was for $73 millions of dollars. At a press conference for the families and their lawyer, Joshua Koskoff, they spoke about the justice that is achieved.

“From the beginning, this was not about the money… it was about getting answers, learning about these actions,” Kosskoff said.

The agreement was reached one day after President Joe Biden recalled another massacre at a school in Parkland, Florida, and pushed for new actions to try to prevent more shootings.

“We also stand with Americans in every corner of our country who have lost loved ones to gun violence or whose Lives have been forever altered by a shooting,” Biden recalled. “My Administration stands with those working to end this epidemic of gun violence. I have put forward a comprehensive plan to reduce gun crime that includes curbing the proliferation of ‘ghost’ weapons, cracking down on arms dealers.”
