A prisoner in a Michigan prison pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the beating attack of another inmate convicted of leading a child pornography ring.
Adam Taylor Wright, of 40 years old, admitted his role in the fatal beating of Christian Maire, of 40, while both were confined in the Institution Milan Correctional Facility.
A press release from the Federal Bureau of Prisons citing The Kansas City Star states that Maire was murdered on January 2, 2019. At the time of being attacked, the man was serving a sentence of 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to leading a company for the sexual exploitation of minors among and 17 years.
“Prosecutors indicated that (Maire) was the mastermind in a heinous crime syndicate that coerced vulnerable girls into engaging in sexual activity on websites” , specified the Associated Press news agency report.
Although the man admitted being involved, he denied being the leader.
Wright was incarcerated for his connection with a series of bank robberies.
The day that, together with two other prisons, the crime was reported in prison, Wright repeatedly kicked and stomped on Maire’s head. Furthermore, he prevented her from escaping while the cronies stabbed him with a metal handle and kicked him in the head. The group then threw the victim down some stairs.
As a result of the plea agreement, Wright shall spend no more than 27 years in prison, which would have to be served consecutively with the time he is serving for three other criminal cases. The other charges he faced in Maire’s death, which included premeditated first-degree murder, were dismissed.
Charges against the other two involved in the assault are still pending.
