The two-time NBA champion with the Miami Heat and current coach of Michigan in the NCAA, Juwan Howard, starred in a violent reaction this Sunday by hitting members of the Wisconsin coaching staff.
Howard expressed his annoyance after coach Greg Gard called a timeout with 15 seconds left on the clock, in Wisconsin Victory 77-63 against Michigan.
The brawl began seconds from the final whistle with a heated exchange of words that quickly involved players, coaching staff and both coaches.
Later, Howard threw a punch at Wisconsin assistant Joel Krabbenhoft and that was enough to start a pitched battle that lasted for several minutes.
In another of the closest shots of a cameraman, it can be seen how several involved in the quarrel fell to the board, victim of the blows and shoves.
The facts were strongly condemned by those related to the university basketball league as well as by the fans who did not agree with Howard’s irresponsible action.
The criticism caused that this Monday, Howard himself will release a statement apologizing for his actions on the pitch.
“After taking time to reflect on everything that happened, I realize how unacceptable my actions and words were, and how they affected so many. I’m so sorry,” reads the text.
“I offer my most Sincere apologies to my players and their families, my staff, my family, and Michigan fans around the world. I would like to personally apologize to Wisconsin assistant coach Joel Krabbenhoft and his family as well,” he added.
Finally, he spoke about what it means to belong to the University of Michigan and how he did not set the right example for students and athletes. 2022
“I will learn from my mistake and this mistake will never happen again“, he snapped.
Juwan Howard played 20 seasons in the NBA and was crowned twice in his last years in the league, in 2013 and 2013 with Miami Heat.
