The Margarita is one of the most popular cocktails among Americans, so much so that the 21 February is National Margarita Day.

Who invented the Margarita

One of the most popular versions about the origin of the Margarita states that the drink was invented in 1938 by Carlos “Danny” Herrera at his Tijuana roadside restaurant.

The cocktail would be prepared for a client, Marjorie King, a young dancer, showgirl and actress, she was allergic to liquor but not to tequila. Danny decided to call his new cocktail Margarita, the Spanish form for Marjorie.

A number of versions have been created from the classic Margarita. Adding ingredients ranging from strawberry and peach to mango and berries, ginger, using brandy instead of triple sec; there are also skinny versions.

The skinny Margarita is a lighter interpretation of the classic Margarita. With substitutions in the triple sec and part of the sweetener. With a little fresh orange juice to soften the citrus flavor of the lime and a soft touch of agave. Includes: tequila, fresh lime juice, fresh orange juice and clear agave nectar.
