The president of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaimán, announced this Tuesday that the 21 de Mayo intends to break the Guinness record for the largest boxing class in the world and for this it will have the support of the head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum.

“Let’s go to invite all the people of the country to come to the Zócalo of Mexico City to break the Guinness record for the largest boxing class that has been held anywhere in the world”, Sheinbaum mentioned at a press conference.

The intention is to break the mark that was established in Moscow, Russia, in 2017, when gathered 3.19 people to take a boxing class to set the current record.

The head of government stressed that with this call they also seek to make physical activity a habit among the Mexican population.

“We are going to break the record and we are going to make Mexico City the sportiest city in the world. After the covid-19 pandemic, sport plays a very important role, teaching children and young people”, added Sheinbaum.

Sulaimán explained that for this class they will have several former world champions and monarchs who will be in charge of teaching the main movements that boxers perform inside the ring.

“We are going to have many boxers, great figures from the past and some current champions. Julio César Chávez is confirmed, Humberto ‘Chiquita’ González, Érik ‘Terrible’ Morales, the Panamanian Roberto ‘Mano de Piedra’ Durán, among many others”, released the director.

The president of the WBC detailed the dynamics that will take place in Saturday’s class 21 of May.

“They are 30 minutes of the duration of the class, 30 exercises will be explained, each exercise it will take one minute to complete the half hour in which the main blows will be taught, as well as the combinations used in boxing”.

Sulaimán was encouraged to estimate that with the range of summoned stars will gather up to 50 thousand people.

“With the enthusiasm of all the champions that we are going to gather, them on their platforms so that everyone can see their movements, I think we are going to gather about 50 a thousand people”.
