Lionel Messi, Argentinian footballer for PSG, stated that the Champions League is a competition in which “the best player doesn’t always win” and acknowledged that winning the top continental title is complicated because “any detail can leave you out”.

In an interview broadcast by PSG on its YouTube account, Messi spoke about the difficulty of achieving this title for which his club is currently fighting, especially after the victory in the first leg of the round of 16 final where they beat Real Madrid 1-0.

“Now the Champions League is complicated. It is a competition in which the best are. Any detail can leave you out when competing against big clubs. We have a great team to get it. We are very excited and we are looking forward to it. You have to go calmly. It is difficult to get the ‘Champions’, it is not always won by the best. You have to be aware of all the details. In the end, the strong teams are the ones that achieve their goals. We are on the road and looking to become even stronger”, he said.

In addition, he valued his relationship on the field with some of the PSG players and specified three names: Neymar Jr, Ángel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappé.

“I know Di María from the national team and Neymar from Barcelona. We play together. With Kylian is who I did not know on or off the field. Little by little we are getting to know each other a little better and especially on the field to try to relate better, feel comfortable with each other and obviously it is very nice to be on the field with the best. I was lucky to do it for a long time with the best at Barcelona and now it’s my turn at PSG. I am very happy”, he pointed out.

In addition, he stressed that PSG has been a club in continuous “growth” for “ten or eleven years” and stated that the French entity has “a lot of ambition” and desire to remain among the best in Europe.

“It has a lot of room for growth and the power to continue doing so. Today (PSG) is among the greats in the world and little by little it is developing more and getting bigger. Today it has nothing to envy to the great historical clubs”, he pointed out.

“It has a very special stadium because of how people experience it. They are singing the whole game. I already experienced it when I came as a visitor, I came many times with Barcelona and now having them every weekend is very nice. It feels like they don’t stop for a minute. The explosion of a goal… it’s a closed stadium where everything reverberates and that moment is very nice,” he concluded.
