According to an Uber survey, New York City has the rudest passengers in the country. Customers in New York don’t tend to have the best manners, while passengers in the Midwest and Florida and California are significantly friendlier.
Regional ranking is based on average ratings of passengers that are given by Uber drivers. Drivers give one to five stars based on whether passengers arrive on time, leave trash in vehicles, or speak respectfully to their drivers, among other factors.
After New York, among the Cities with the rudest customers are followed by the cities of Seattle, Washington, DC and Boston, as reported by Uber. Minneapolis-St. Paul is ranked number 5, followed by San Francisco, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Baltimore and Chicago.
It should be noted that Uber drivers have suffered several altercations from customers in recent years.
In February 2020, a trio of passengers in Queens left an Uber driver in a coma when they beat him up because he asked them to stop drinking alcohol in his car.
The following year, another Queens driver left in critical condition after a group of strangers hit him in the head with a bottle.
In 2018, a passenger from the Bronx accidentally ordered an Uber Pool ride, then got angry when the driver had to pick up another passenger and attacked him with a brick, despite the fact that he was to blame.
Interestingly, the cities with the rudest passengers are concentrated mainly on the coasts of the country, while passengers Eros in the inner cities are apparently much friendlier. Uber said San Antonio has the highest average rating for well-behaved riders, followed by St. Louis, Nashville, Salt Lake City and Kansas City, Missouri.
Other cities with friendly customers include Sacramento , Tampa Bay, Charlotte, Las Vegas and Portland.
Uber released the data on rider ratings as part of the launch of a new feature called ‘privacy center’, which allows Uber riders to see how drivers have rated them and gives them advice on how to improve your average rating.
