The Secretary of State of the United States, Antony Blinken, requested this Tuesday more protection for Mexican journalists in the face of the repeated murders of media professionals registered in the country.

“The high The number of journalists killed in Mexico this year and the ongoing threats they face are worrying,” Blinken said in a message via Twitter.

The head of US diplomacy said he joined “those who ask for more accountability and protections for Mexican journalists.”

“My heart goes out to the loved ones of those who gave their lives for the truth”, concluded Blinken in his brief message.

This month, Senators Marco Rubio and Tim Kaine they had written to Blinken to express their concern about the murders of journalists in the neighboring country and to denounce the “inaction” of the Mexican government.

The senators, Republican and Democrat, defended that the United States should urge the Executive of Andrés Manuel López Obrador to improve the protection of journalists and regretted that the Mexican president “continues to criticize ing journalists who criticize their government instead of defending freedom of expression”.

The murders of journalists, which now total five so far 2022, have shocked the country and united the union in demanding justice and protection for communicators in Mexico, one of the most dangerous nations to practice this profession.
