At the time that the helicopters tried to reach the approved landing zone outside the ski resort, Snowbird, the aircraft presented faded conditions, Fox said Salt Lake City.
The authorities detailed that during the landing, a blade of the main rotor system of the second helicopter hit the main helicopter, and tore off its tail rotor, causing one of the aircraft to have a forced landing of side.
Due to the tense moment, none of the members who were inside the helicopters were injured, but the aircraft involved suffered damage, although it is not determined if they can still be used.
“We are grateful that no one was seriously injured thanks to the quick reaction and training of both command pilots,” said Major Matthew Green, who serves as commander of the 2nd Aviation and General Support Battalion. “At this time, our main priority is to take care of both crews.”
For his part, Jared Jones noted that the accident occurred near a ski area, but that no practitioner was in danger.
“We train this as part of a set of routine missions. Therefore, summer and winter hilly training, including dust and snow conditions, we call it ‘full white condition’. In combat, there are places you have to land sometimes that are difficult, and so we train to that standard,” Jones noted.
Meanwhile, the National Guard reported that all training flights were suspended until further notice.
