The Florida lawyer who took off her clothes in a bar after being denied service could lose her license to practice law.
Although Kelly Elkins, of 49 years, continues to be listed in the Florida Bar, which she joined more than 20 years ago, the entity opened a case for possible disciplinary action, an agency spokesperson confirmed to the New York Post.
When officers arrived at the Beach Lounge in St. Pete Beach, they found Elkins naked as she refused to wear clothes.
The lawyer was admitted to the prison of Pinellas County in the early hours of Friday.
Less than 24 hours earlier, she had been released for non-payment at a Thai restaurant near the bar.
When she went to the Beach Lounge after leaving jail, the woman was already intoxicated to the point that the manager refused to serve her, according to the criminal complaint in the case.
It was then that the suspect walked to the bathroom and then returned to the bar without clothes, before the bewildered gaze of others clients.
The administrator asked her to put on her clothes and leave, but Elkins refused.
When police arrived at the scene, the accused was still naked in the bar despite the insistence of managers and agents to cover up. The only thing the female did was put on a sweatshirt with a zipper that did not close.
The lawyer claimed that she was very tired.
Elkins faces charges of disorderly conduct and was released on her own recognizance, that is, without the need for bail.
In relation to the other case, he faces charges of obtaining food or lodging with intent to defraud.
In the reported incident at Nori Thai, on Thursday afternoon, the woman consumed food and several alcoholic beverages even though she did not have the $38.25 to pay the bill, the authorities indicated.
