After a meeting held this Thursday, the FIFA Council issued a statement in which it expressed its concern about the situation in Ukraine and called for the cessation of hostilities and the arrival of peace.
“FIFA condemns the use of force by Russia in Ukraine and any kind of violence to resolve conflicts. Violence is never a solution and FIFA calls on all parties to restore peace through constructive dialogue.”
In this sense, the highest governing body of international football, expressed its solidarity with the Ukrainian people in the face of this situation that keeps the whole world on edge.
For their part, the football federations of Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic asked FIFA not to play the World Cup qualifying matches that were scheduled in Russia, to which the The sports entity responded that it would keep an eye on the situation before making a decision.
These matches that will decide the last European quotas for Qatar 2022, are scheduled to be played next 24 in March, where Russia will host Poland and Sweden will host the Czech Republic.
