Last 22 February, the Brazilian Federal Police raided a laboratory at the State University of Amazonas in order to stop the trafficking of human organs that was carried out by a professor from the same institution.
Through a statement, the Brazilian authorities announced that the anatomy laboratory “performed the extraction of body fluids”, as part of the plastination process, in in which the fluids are replaced by plastics such as silicone and epoxy to preserve body parts.
Likewise, it was revealed that the professor who carried out said procedures is under investigation and for the moment it has been kept the name of the detainee under guard.
Although it is still unknown if the shipment of organs to Singapore was intercepted, it is known that the package would be destined for the Indonesian fashion designer and influencer Arnold Putra, who last month generated controversy for his fascination with the parts of the c human body.
Even in 2020, Putra called the world’s attention for putting up for sale a bag made with bones from a human spine; after the scandal, the designer assured that the bones were legally obtained from a medical surplus in Canada.
“It is part of a creative learning process that should involve opposition; otherwise, it would be just a form of repeated validation”, the designer said at the time on his social networks.
In that publication, he was also encouraged to reveal that the human remains were from a collection “derived from human remains and albino skin”.
Organ trafficking is a crime in almost most countries and in Brazil it is punishable by 8 years in prison, which would be facing the teacher.
