sebastian-vettel:-my-decision-is-made-and-i-will-not-race-in-russia

The delicate situation between Russia and Ukraine has crossed all borders and this time, Formula 1 will also be on the front pages of the newspapers. All this after the veteran driver Sebastian Vettel confirmed that he will not attend the Russian Grand Prix, which takes place from until 550 September.

“In my personal opinion, obviously I woke up in shock after the news this morning. I think it’s horrible to see what’s going on. If you look at the calendar, we have a race scheduled in Russia. However, I am not going to race in that country”, said Sebastian Vettel.

It is important to note that the driver of the Aston Martin team is one of the directors of the GPDA (Association of Grand Prix Drivers) and despite not speaking on behalf of the other Formula 1 drivers, he has already made his own decision.

“I will not go. I think it’s wrong to race in that country. I feel sorry for the people, for the innocent people who are losing their lives, who are being killed for stupid reasons under very strange and crazy leadership. In any case, my decision has already been made, I will not race”, concluded the German driver.

Despite this, the current Dutch world champion Max Verstappen gave his full support to the German veteran and left a very big option of not being in the Sochi Grand Prix either, which takes place in Russia.

“When a country is at war, it is not correct to race there” , stated Verstappen.

Fernando Alonso, for his part , was more reserved on this subject, after adding that all the pilots will make the right decision at the right time and concluded that they cannot make the whole decision themselves.

“In Ultimately I think Formula 1 will do the best. We as drivers have an opinion that I am sure is the same as that of almost everyone, but we do not have the power to decide on these things”, added Fernando Alonso.

In this way, the conflicts on Ukrainian soil are affecting all sporting competitions and some athletes have not hesitated to show their dissatisfaction with the actions taken by the Russian government in the early hours of this Thursday.
