mlb-commissioner-joined-negotiations-with-the-mlbpa-that-continue-to-make-slow-progress

The Major League Baseball Commissioner, Rob Manfred, joined this Friday in person the negotiations that MLB is holding with the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA), in search of reaching an agreement that would allow ending the current work stoppage experienced by Major League Baseball.

The commissioner, who was face to face with the president of the Players Union, Tony Clark, for the first time, since the year 2020, joined the fifth consecutive meeting held by both parties this week.

Manfred’s arrival at the negotiations at Roger Dean Stadium, in Jupiter, Florida, occurs on a day in which the players made some progress, but not enough to resolve the labor conflict.

According to reports, at this Friday’s meeting, the players managed to make progress on their proposal regarding the order of the draft or amateur lottery, but the issues of great impact economic co, which have been the most difficult, are still on the table.

The establishment of an amount in terms of the minimum wage and the proportion that must be increased per year, are still awaiting a consensus , as well as the bonus fund for players before opting for arbitration and distribution of funds, are obstacles that still need to be overcome in this negotiation process.

Although players still have not accepted next Monday 28 in February as the deadline to complete the negotiations without canceling regular season games, which will be deducted from the players’ salaries, a spokesperson for the negotiation process, indicated that MLB has already canceled the preseason games on March 5, 6 and 7.

With this decision, MLB established March 8 as the possible start date for preseason games, maintaining until now, March 31 as or the start day of the baseball season 2022.

Negotiations will continue this Saturday, with an eye toward continuing to move toward the regular schedule , but with the objective, of both parties, of defending their interests.
