The United States Undersecretary of State, Wendy Sherman, spoke this Thursday with the Vice President and Foreign Minister of Colombia, Marta Lucía Ramírez, about the Russian attack on Ukraine and highlighted the unity of the two countries on this front.
Sherman praised the Colombian government for its “condemnation of Russian actions” and for the “strong rejection” expressed by the president, Iván Duque, of this “unjustified aggression,” he said in a brief statement State Department spokesman Ned Price.
“The United States and its allies and partners will respond in a unified and determined manner to hold Russia accountable,” Price stressed in the note.
Duque assured that his country “categorically rejects the war and unites all the voices of the international community that today call for a rapid withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory.”
“Colombia will actively participate in all multilateral forums that and correspond to seek the greatest international coordination that allows for humanitarian responses to this serious situation and that also reflect the need to apply all the corresponding sanctions”, he added.
“This premeditated and unjustified aggression is a threat to world peace, it is a threat to the stability of Europe (…) This aggression also threatens the reactivation of the world economy and can generate serious disturbances in international markets and aggravate the inflationary situation that is affecting the world”, said the Colombian president.
