German football is dressed in mourning for the tragic death of Jordi Bongard, a young promising sub-20 of Borussia Monchengladbach. The defender, aged 23 years old, lost his life on Wednesday night, in a traffic accident.

“Our most sincere condolences to the family and friends at this difficult time. Jordi will always be in our hearts and thoughts!”, published the Bundesliga team on their social networks, with a black and white photo of Bongard.

Roland Virkus, sporting director of Mönchengladbach, stated on the club’s website: “We received this terrible news this morning (Thursday), and we are stunned. Our deepest condolences and our thoughts are with Jordi’s family”.

Real Madrid, for its part, expressed its condolences and affection to his family and loved ones, his club and his hobby. “Real Madrid, its president and its Board of Directors deeply regret the death of Jordi Bongard, a player from the Borussia Moenchengladbach academy,” the white team said.

Who was this young promise?

Jordi Bongard was one of the maximum promises of Gladbach. He had been part of this institution since 2013, and had a professional contract since July 2021. In fact, he represented the German team in the European sub-17 of 2018, which was developed in the Netherlands.

To comply with the mourning, this Thursday the training of the professionals and the sub-20 of Borussia Moenchengladbach, as well as the press conference for the Bundesliga match against VfL Wolfsburg.
