The Mexican government reported this Saturday that it maintains communication with approximately 90 people who remain in Ukraine to be transferred to Romania “in as much as possible”.
“Olga García Guillén (Mexico’s ambassador to Ukraine) informs me that she continues to work from her residence in Mexico. They hear shots. There’s a curfew so she can’t move vehicles. We are in communication with 90 approximately people to move them to Romania as soon as possible,” Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard wrote in his official account. on Twitter.
The foreign minister also shared images of the Mexican families that have already been transferred to Romania with the diplomatic protection of Mexico.
“The first Mexican families assisted by the ongoing protection protocol arrived in Romania. Very happy, the Air Force plane will bring them home,” said the Secretary of Foreign Affairs.
On Friday, the foreign minister had reported that Mexico would send an Air Force plane to Romania to repatriate to their nationals residing in Ukraine who wish to return to their country in the face of the Russian invasion.
That day, a first group of 22 Mexicans left by bus to the border with Romania, where they were expected by the ambassador in Bucharest, according to the foreign minister
“It was all a negotiation that the owner of the bus did not cancel them,” said Ebrard.
Mexico’s ambassador to Ukraine, Olga García Guillén, explained on Thursday that they have identified about 230 Mexicans, spouses and children, in Ukraine. A first group of 32 people was taken out of Kiev last week.
But Ebrard pointed out that García could not enter the embassy building this Friday due to an explosion in the adjoining building.
Mexico, which had been more cautious at first, but on Thursday Ebrard “strongly condemned” Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and called for an “immediate cessation ” of the attacks.
