The American Ellissa Baird and the Ukrainian Andrii Petrenko are days away from becoming parents for the first time and although the couple decided that their first child should be born in Ukraine, it will be born in Poland after Russia’s military invasion of their country.

In an interview with NEWS4SA, the parents of the Texan, Michael and Heidi Baird, said that they were about to go to bed when they received a call alerting them to the war that had broken out in the country where their daughter lived.

The Bairds did not separate from the television from the moment they found out that their daughter, son-in-law and unborn grandson were in danger.

“It’s been hard, I’m not going to lie. There have been many tears and I constantly wonder how it is changing every hour“, the afflicted mother told the aforementioned medium. from a video her son-in-law posted on YouTube that her daughter had managed to leave Ukraine: “Ellissa, she is safe, she is already in a western region of Ukraine. We will try to take her to Poland with the help of some friends”.

With her daughter safe, the matriarch of the family does not know how to be by her daughter’s side the day she becomes a mother : “We are trying to fight to find out how we can continue to be by her side when she gives birth. We don’t know what that will look like.”

What Hiedi does know is that her daughter and son-in-law need help, which is why she opened a GoFundMe page titled “Help Ellissa and Andrii escape from Ukraine”.

“Unfortunately they had to flee and leave everything behind. Their house, their clothes, almost everything they own. Not to mention all the baby stuff. They had also fully paid for the hospital, that money will be lost, “the mother wrote on the page.

Her mother’s request is to help her raise funds to cover the delivery of her daughter her. She has also asked for help to find a place in Poland where her daughter, husband and grandson can live long-term.

“There are so many people who cannot go out, they have no transportation . We are blessed that our children have a car and are able to go out. My biggest prayer is that we just don’t forget that these are real people there, who have real fears and aren’t sure about their future,” the mother told NEWS4SA.
