The Aldine Independent School District of Texas fired three school employees who witnessed a student assault another in a hallway at Jones Middle School and failed to intervene.
The The attack is recorded in a video from surveillance cameras released on Tuesday by Veda Cavitt, the minor’s grandmother and legal guardian.
In the images, you can see when a “bully”, three times the size of the victim, aged 11 and autistic, throws him to the ground and kicks him. When the boy manages to get up, the attacker attacks him with his fists.
In the recording, an adult is seen slaps the aggressor while Sekai writhes on the ground.
Even so, the student attacks the victim a third time.
“Those adults in that video are standing there. They make no attempt to help my child off the ground. They do not offer you any assistance. They don’t even check if he was hurt,” the grandmother denounced.
Cavitt took custody of Sekai after her parents died when she was a baby. The grandmother said that the child’s ability is 4 to 5 years old.
School district said it took action
“Incident at Jones Middle School between two students with special needs on 16 January is sad and deeply concerning. The district launched an immediate investigation; however, after an additional review, the district took additional action”, indicates a statement from the entity in reference to the dismissal of the three employees.
“The district trains teacher assistants in techniques of nonviolent crisis intervention at the beginning of each school year, and will reinforce training for the remainder of this year,” administrators added.
