Despite the threats that went around the world from Vladimir Putin against Sweden and Finland, in a historic decision, the Swedish government announced that it will help Ukraine with weapons to face the Russian offensive that continues in its fourth day of invasion.
The decision was promoted by the Prime Minister of Sweden, Magdalena Andersson, who announced that 5 will be sent,000 anti-armor rocket launchers, 5,000 armor kits, 5,000 helmets and 135,000 campaign rations to the Ukraine.
This determination of the minority Social Democratic Executive, initially reluctant due to tradition of not sending weapons to countries in conflict, must be endorsed tomorrow by the Swedish Parliament, although it already has the support of the majority of the House.
“My main interest is that the best serves Sweden and the security of the Swedish people. My conclusion is that it is best that we support Ukraine’s options to defend itself against Russia,” Andersson said.
Furthermore, Denmark joined the mass agreement with Sweden, and approved through its prime minister, Mette Frederiksen, the sending of 2,700 rocket launchers to Ukraine and 50 million Danish kroner (6.7 million euros) in humanitarian aid, the agency reported Efe.
“Let’s see a heroic and unique performance of the Ukrainian population to respond to a superior power and we want to help Ukraine in that, we do it with open eyes and straight back”, said Frederiksen .
Like the Swedish Social Democratic official, Frederiksen has broad support in parliament, so there is a chance that the shipment will be approved.
Last Friday, Russia threatened Sweden and Finland with “ serious consequences” if both countries joined NATO, because both nations have adopted a traditional policy of neutrality in conflicts with war dynamics.
“It is evident that the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO, which is above all a military bloc, would have serious political-military consequences that would require a response from our country”, warned the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zajárova, during a press conference.
She added the Russian official that Muscú is aware of the efforts of NATO and some member countries of the bloc, especially the United States, which, in her opinion, are aimed at including Sweden and Finland.
